Hey Sam, What's your opinion on bolt fluting? I'm kinda confused on the topic. I have a Remy 700 being built, and was considering having it done as it's a relatively inexpensive option, but was wondering if it really does anything besides look cool. It seems that for many custom actions like the Nesika, the bolts are fluted, so it would appear at least on the surface that it doesn't degrade performance. Does it improve anything? The British forces has the fluting added to the AI rifles as part of their package, so it would appear that they believe it does. It's not incorporated into the M24 or M40s though, and doesn't seem to have impacted performance. I asked my smith about it and he mentioned that he's never really seen the need. While some folks think it gives debris a place to go other then the race ways, it might just give debris an avenue to get in. So, in the end, I figured I'd get another opinion or three. If it is helical fluting and it is done well, it will save a little weight and will help keep your bolt from binding in a real dirty environment. | ||||
