Another classic lie from 50punk, this quote was taken from 50driver.yak (formerly longrangehunting.com) __________________________________________________________________________ "Fiftydriver Member Reged: 07/16/02 Posts: 1547 Loc: Fort Shaw, Montana Re: Allen Mags? [Re: LOBO] #86533 - 10/24/05 01:39 PM Also, I had Dan Lilja tool up for special barrels, all with 3 groove rifling to offer as much resistance to throat erosion as possible. Finally, I recommend using the very slow Ball burning powders which are much less abrasive as they pass through the throat as well as burning at a lower flame temp in the bore." ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 100,000 sperm and 50yak resulted from the fastest one.....hard to believe.... Lets try and get to the truth. You read the above garbage and ask yourself, "Does this mean that if I use a ball powder, the throat of my $5,000.00 custom rifle will last longer, because the powder does not burn so hot, so the lands won't burn away???" Absolutely NOT. Both ball powders and stick powders and flake powders burn typically between 2800 and 3000 degrees Kelvin. ZERO DIFFRERENCE IN FLAME FRONT TEMPS. Now lets move on to the abrasive issue (no we are not talking about my writing style). The most abrasive particles come from the priming system, the most corrosive particles come from the priming system. DOD did extensive tests on throat erosion with all 3 types of powders and found no conclusive evidence suggesting any significant difference between stick and ball powders. Changes in throat erosion rate occured through heat/impulse erosion of weapons that were rapid fired. Need a second opinion? Just call your local powder company: Hodgdon, Vitahvouri, IMR..... and ask to speak to a technical engineer, get your info from people who base their conclusions on science instead of what they are trying to sell you. | |||
