A very popular gunsmith on one of the other forums advised shooters that it is OK to paint an action AFTER you have bedded a rifle. He even went on to say the it "Tightens a bed job up little." 1) The goal of bedding is to control the position of the action 'STRESS FREE' in a consistent manner. A quality bedding job done by a Pro is a vacuum perfect fit. There is NO ROOM for paint. 2) Adding paint after the fact will add STRESS!!! It will also put a softer surface between two harder surfaces, and degrade much quicker. 3) The teflon and Moly paints reduce friction which is the opposite of what you want. 4) If you want your gun to shoot in different spots hot and cold, Paint your action after you have bedded it. Properly applied teflon adds 0.0004" not enough to make a difference. If anything it tightens up a bed job a little.
