Hey All,

Years ago I was in this metal shop talking to this strange fella (S1) about a pet project rifle (Nesika “Raptor” 300WSM). While there I was eyeballing the candy he was working on and noticed a formidable looking gas gun (SR-25) sitting on the bench. The conversation turned briefly from bolt guns to semi’s. This strange fella started carrying on about how some black rifles could be made to be as accurate as a custom bolt gun. Sounded like a myth similar to the Loch Ness Monster… Anyway this fella carried on and on about how this was going to be the next best thing since sliced bread. He noted that in the recent past he had good luck with the SR-25 ($$$ouch) and DPMS 7.62 rifles. He commented that after a little tweaking they would run faster then any bolt gun made and leave nothing behind in the accuracy department.

We continued with my pet project which turned out to be scary accurate. And I kept that little tidbit of info about DPMS in the back of my iddy biddy brain.

A couple weeks ago I got the hankering for semi in 7.62 much the same way a heck of a lot of people have here recently. Isn’t there some saying about “ All great minds think alike”!! I looked and looked and was able to finally track one down.

I got it home, gave it a through going over and stroked the barrel several hundred times with JB Bore paste before mounting a 4.5x14 atop it.

Pictures show a Burris 1.75 x 6 that I exchanged out for the 4.5x14 at the end of the day.

This morning it was cool and almost no perceivable wind down in our old quarry. I shot 5 shots of military ball to get it on paper then loaded 5 Federal GM 168’s

Put another 20 military ball through it and gave it a good cleaning.

Fired a Cold Bore shot and then busted out this 5 Shot!!!!!!!!!!!!! The dot is one of them Birchwood Casey’s 1” dots.

Hell I can’t wait to see what might happen once I install a decent trigger and free float forend.

Ok still waiting on S1 for assistance with photos. Was back at the range today for team quals with our Rock River M4's. During a break I got the DPMS back out and ran a box of South African surplus through it. I still had the Burris scope on it so no major precision work, but it does seem to like that ammo as well. Looks like its not going to be to finicky.

That 150gr FMJ BT isn't bad stuff. Granted it's not quite as accurate as a good load with a 155 Scenar, an A Max, or a SMK, but it typically shoots better than most of your off the shelf boxes of hunting cartridges.

I can't wait to see the pics, and see what a target looks like with a good match load!

I was impressed with the S.African also. I picked up a RCBS small base die set today and will begin working on some handloads soon. I've got several good bullets to pick from:

Amax-several weights
Nosler B-Tip- several weights
Chism FB- 150
Bib- 187
Sierra MK's- several weights.

I have some loaded match rounds from my old PSS but the overal length is to long for the magazine and the chamber.

I talked with S1 on the phone last night about the pictures. We couldn't figure it out so I emailed them to him and he will post them for me. Not sure what the problem is, I'm not a geek.

Another photo.
Along with my ARTactical Nesika 300WSM "Raptor"

I'm going to coin a new phrase. Every gun needs a name like a good car does. The DPMS is hereby named. "POWR" = Perimeter Over Watch Rifle!

Just remember you seen it here first!!!!

Moose,

The Vtac is Rifle length. I wish it was about 2 inches longer. I wanted it to cover almost the entire barrel. Keep in mind the barrel is 16"
