I shot me a doe this morning with my 300 SAUM and 175 gr SMKs. The deer was shot at my furthest possible shot now for my stands at 305 yards. Short for some, but about as long as I can find in East TX. Took out a rib going in and another going out. Pictures to come of the entrance/exit wounds. She went about 50 yards straight down hill. Exit wound is about 1.5" in diameter with another inch of hairless hide. What else can I say but another satisfied SMK hunter!
The evidence, including yours is overwhelming. It is a myth that match bullets can not perform on big game in many applications. Just not all applications. Many match bullets work better than bonded bullets at long range because their jackets are thinner, and the impact velocity is lower. One must still use common sense and match the shot angle/shot placement, with the range/impact velocity, to kill as quickly as possible.
Well now, it appears that deer around the planet will not be recommending 300 SMK's for hunting, especially when fired from a 338 Lapua owned by Mark338 at a distance exceeding 400 yards.
Please keep in mind that this photographic evidence only represents 1 exit wound from 1 bullet, as there was only one deer on the trajectory line....and only one bullet needed.
Only shot 1 cow elk in frontal chest shoot with 190SMK out of 300WSM. never found the bullet, did make it into stomach cavity. Shoot was about 150 yrds I would guess. She ran about 50yrds before falling over. Almost forgot, shot a mule doe at 125yrds this year. Made a pencil hole perfectly though chest cavity. I was amazed it didn't do more. Out of a 7mmWSM. 175SMK bullet. Kinda unpredictalble bullets they are. But when you like to shoot distance you have to at least hit the thing to kill it
I usually use Game Kings, shoot great, just shed jackets well.
