Special thanks to S1, from troop 597, for hosting their shooting trip at the Benchrest Gun Club. Also thanks to Ronnie Fowlkes, of SLMPD HRT, and Falcon4, for their marksmanship instruction.
Most of the troop members prefered the heavily modified Mark 11 Mod 0 of S1's. They enjoyed the light recoil and making head shots at 100 yards.
Here is a pic of my son shooting one of Ronnies personal AR-15's, and Ronnie coaching him on the fundamentals. A great time was had by all, we even got some of the parents to shoot smiles right onto their own faces!
Y'all are quite welcome, we truly enjoyed having y'all. The parents were outstanding and very patient, it was obvious to me why the younger ones were excellent students and outstanding individuals. If we don't pass marksmanship skills and the American traditions of the rifleman down to these younger ones, who will? Thanks to Ronnie and Falcon 4 for all their help. Thanks to Post777 for the 223 ammo. Hope we got some younger ones off to a great start on their marksmanship badges.
Way to go guys! I agree 100 percent with S1 on the importance of teaching what we know to the younger generation. After a few years of coaching, my nephew took a deer Sat., totally hunting solo. He stalked a bedded herd using the wind, got to within 30 yards of them, and took the one he wanted with a perfect shot. He then proceded to field dress it himself. He is now totally hooked on hunting, and he came from a background where hunting is discouraged as a waste of time. Cowman
FYI to S1 Four scouts earned their shooting merit badge requirements, under the scrutiny of an "official NRA instructor" yesterday. One of the scouts pointed out to the instructor, that he should not have his finger in the trigger guard, unless he is ready to pull the trigger. Yes, the boys did listen!
Congratulations to the scouts that got their Marksmanship Merit Badge. We are very proud of you guys and your achievments and know you will achieve great things in the future!
